On January 22, 2018, Sally Elizabeth Kamp passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 78 years old.
Sally was born in Bellingham, Washington on April 16th, 1939. She was the daughter of William E. VanOver and Margaret C. Kale of South Brandon Street, Seattle. She grew up on Beacon Hill where, as a teenager, she met her husband, John. They married, raised a son, and Sally worked at Valu-Mart in Georgetown while her husband drove truck. In 1966 Sally had a daughter, and soon after the family moved to Maple Valley, where they built a house in the woods and founded Maple Valley Asphalt. Sally went to work at Tahoma High School, and was the ASB secretary for many years before moving to the district office to help build new schools for Tahoma.
In her spare time, Sally spent many summers on Protection Island near Sequim, where she enjoyed reading, fishing and beachcombing. She loved her Persian cats as well as nature and animals of all sorts, foreign travel, the Outlander books, Russell Wilson, U2, and her house and neighbors in Sointula, Canada.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband, John Kamp; her son, Jeff Kamp; and her brother, Bill VanOver. She is survived by her daughter, Jill Kamp.
Sally will be buried at Tahoma National Cemetery without a service as was her wish.
